Elliott Kim, a lab member who is currently an MEng student, will be going to South Africa this winter for three weeks to teach STEM via a tutoring program called the Mamelodi Initiative:

Elliott will be joining a team of college students from Boston outside of Pretoria, South Africa from Dec. 30 – Jan 20. They will partner with students and staff at the University of Pretoria in an education enrichment effort that will bring South African university students to Mamelodi to establish a long-term program in the township’s schools. The tutoring will include academic, spiritual and enrichment components and will include students’ families and local community to give them strong, holistic support.

His previous trips have been to Haiti in 2013 and Guatemala in 2014.  To help support his trip Elliott is raising funds for airfare, food and accommodation costs:

Donations are tax-deductible and for a great cause.  Can’t wait to hear about Elliott’s experience.
